Foreword:

Troop 103 is a Scout run Troop. The Scouts in leadership positions plan, organize, and run the meetings, campouts,service projects and other Scouting activities. The Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmasters support the Scouts in leadership positions. All Scouts follow the Scout handbook and work on and advance in ranks. They also work on Merit Badges. There are 21 Merit Badges needed for Eagle rank including the 12 Eagle required. There are 105 elective Merit Badges to choose from. Parents support with driving the Troop to camps or outdoor events about once a month.

Uniform:


Class A: The Class A uniform includes the long-sleeve or short-sleeve button shirt, the neckerchief & slide, Scout Pants or Shorts, Scout belt, and Scout socks. The Black Swamp patch and 103 numbers are on the left sleeve. Rank badge is on the left pocket, Purple International Scouting patch is above the left pocket, and olive green epaulets are on the shoulder tabs.For ceremonies the Merit Badge Sash is worn over the right shoulder.
Class B: The class B uniform includes a Boy Scout t-shirt.

Meetings:


Meetings are on every Tuesday night at 7:00 (unless notified otherwise.) Scouts should bring their handbook, a notebook with a pen,and anything specified by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) or their Patrol Leader (PL). Scouts should wear their Scout shirt and Scout pants.Neckerchief and sash are not required unless specified by the Senior Patrol Leader.

Campouts:


Campouts take place once per Month. Scouts should be dropped off on Friday at the time given by the Senior Patrol Leader. Scouts should bring weather appropriate items on the Weekend Campout Checklist realizing that whatever you bring you have to carry. Scouts will return on Sunday at the time communicated by the Scoutmaster. At the meeting the week of the campout each patrol will plan their meals and activities for the weekend and a Scout will be assigned to buy the food for their patrol.

Rank Advancement:

Scouts can advance rank after they have completed all the requirements for that rank. Rank requirements are located in the back of the Boy Scout Handbook. Before advancing rank, Scouts must complete a Scoutmaster Conference and a Board of Review. The Different Ranks are:
  • Scout
  • Tenderfoot
  • Second Class
  • First Class
  • Star Scout
  • Life Scout
  • Eagle Scout

Merit Badges:

Merit Badges can be earned and sewed onto the Merit Badge sash that you can purchase at the Boy Scout store. There is a booklet for each individual Merit Badge that you can purchase at the Boy Scout store or check out from the Troop library. Summer Camp:

Summer Camp takes place once per year usually at the end of June. Summer Camp arrival is on Sunday which is when Scouts will learn a little bit about Summer Camp and set up the campsite. During Summer Camp Scouts can earn many Merit Badges and rank requirements. Scouts should bring weather appropriate items from the Summer Camp Checklist realizing that whatever you bring you have to carry. Scouts will return the next Saturday at the time communicated by the Scoutmaster.

Court of Honor:

Court of Honors take place 2-3 times a year. Court of Honors are to recognize Scouts who have advanced rank or have earned other awards such as merit badges. Scouts should wear their full Class A uniform and bring their things for a normal meeting unless otherwise notified.

Elections:

Elections take place every six months. At the elections Scouts in each Patrol can run for Patrol Leader (PL), Assistant Patrol Leader(APL), and Patrol Scribe. Scouts that are First Class Rank or higher can run for Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL).Scouts can also run for Troop positions.

  • Den Chief (Webelos II)

Scout Fees and Accounts:

Webelos who cross over pay $1 transfer fee. New Scouts pay $15*to register and $12* for Boys Life. Yearly all Scouts pay $26* by Jan.31st and $26* by May 31st a portion of which is put into the Scout's account. The fall fundraiser is selling popcorn and 1 or more fundraisers take place during the year. Scouts receive a portion of the sales they make through fundraisers and an account is kept by the treasurer for them. The money in their account can be used for camping food fees,summer camp, or any Scouting activities they must cover.Scouts that do well with the fundraisers can save parents from covering these fees. Encourage and support your Scout with these few fundraisers.
